Premature Ventricular Contraction (PVC)
Etiology:
- Ectopic beats from ventricular foci
- Hypoxia
- Electrolyte abnormalities
- Hyperthyroidism
Signs and Symptoms:
- Asymptomatic
- Palpitation
ECG Findings:
- Wide QRS that is not preceded by a P wave
- PVCs are followed by a compensatory pause
Treatments:
- Treatments are focused on underlying cause
- Beta blocker or other antiarrhytmics are given if symptomatic
