Premature Ventricular Contraction (PVC)

Etiology:
  • Ectopic beats from ventricular foci
  • Hypoxia
  • Electrolyte abnormalities
  • Hyperthyroidism

Signs and Symptoms:
  • Asymptomatic
  • Palpitation

ECG Findings:
  • Wide QRS that is not preceded by a P wave
  • PVCs are followed by a compensatory pause

Treatments:
  • Treatments are focused on underlying cause
  • Beta blocker or other antiarrhytmics are given if symptomatic
